Independent judgement for consequential decisions
Carthage Risk Consulting is an independent risk intelligence, resilience and advisory firm focused on North Africa and the western Mediterranean.
Why the firm exists
Clients with exposure in North Africa are usually well served on financial and legal questions and poorly served on the practical ones: whether a site can be run safely, whether a counterparty is what it claims to be, whether a household’s arrangements would hold during a disruption, and what the operating environment is actually doing rather than what a headline suggests.
This firm exists to answer questions of that kind in writing, with the basis of each conclusion recorded, so that a principal, a trustee or a board can act on something more durable than an impression.
How judgement is formed
Field experience first
The work rests on two decades of international field experience set out in the profile of Makram Hached. Analysis is directed and reviewed by him personally.
Evidence discipline
Conclusions distinguish what was observed and verified from what was reported, inferred or unavailable. Where confidence is limited, that is stated rather than smoothed over.
Written to be used
Analysis is written for the person who has to make the decision, in language that survives translation between a household, a family office and a board.
Who the firm works with
Private clients and families with a residence, an estate or a continuing presence in the region. Family offices and trustees who must be satisfied that arrangements are adequate and be able to evidence it. Investors and companies committing capital to a site or already operating one. And professional advisers whose clients hold exposure in the region and who need independent regional judgement.
Regional focus
The region is followed continuously rather than covered as one line in a global offering.
Work is conducted in Arabic, French, Italian and English. Client engagement, briefing and reporting take place directly with the firm, in person where appropriate or remotely as preferred.
Analysis that can still be examined a year after it was written.
Independence and boundaries
The firm remains independent of the service providers and arrangements it may be asked to assess. That separation supports impartial judgement and keeps the firm’s interest fixed on the accuracy of the finding.
Speak privately
If the firm looks relevant to a situation you are weighing, write and say so in general terms. Anything client-specific is discussed privately rather than published here.
